My Secret Places in Vancouver by Luxe Travel Family

When planning a trip, there’s nothing like advice from a local or a frequent visitor. RueBaRue asked savvy globetrotters to share what they like best about the places they love. We asked Luxe Travel Family to share with us its Vancouver secrets.

Why did you choose Vancouver?
I called Vancouver at home at one point, and it is one of my favorite cities. I love Vancouver's unique combination of natural beauty, diversity, and sophistication.

When was the first time you visited the city?
I visited Vancouver for the first time as a young child. It rarely snows on the West Coast, but it did during my first visit!

How often do you visit?
I visit Vancouver a few times per year but wish it was more often.

What is your favorite place for…

Breakfast
I often stay on the Gold Floor at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and eat breakfast in the lounge. The views are incredible, and the breakfast selection is extensive, healthy, and delicious. Gold Floor guests receive numerous amenities including complimentary breakfast.

Lunch
YEW seafood + bar at the Four Seasons Hotel is my all time favorite lunch spot. Attentive service, a fabulous wine list, and proximity to the shops in Pacific Centre make Yew an easy choice.

Mid afternoon treat
For a sweet treat, I stop for gelato at the award-winning Bella Gelateria. For espresso, I head to Caffe Artigiano on either Hornby or Hastings Street.

Cocktails
The Lobby Lounge + Raw Bar at the Fairmont Pacific Rim is a new fave! Stop by for cocktails and a pre-dinner snack - the sushi from the Raw Bar is fantastic.

Dinner
With the kids, Cactus Club is a predictable choice with an interesting menu and locations throughout the city. With slightly older companions, Hawksworth Restaurant or Le Crocodile are fabulous. Hawksworth Restaurant has won numerous awards so be sure to book in advance. Le Crocodile, another award winning restaurant, has been a favorite for decades. Le Crocodile has been serving innovative French cuisine in Vancouver for 30 years.

Which part of town do you like and feel that most visitors never get to see?
Although it is only a few kilometers from downtown, Kitsilano, known locally as Kits, may be overlooked by many visitors. I love to wander along the tree-line streets in Kits, linger in a cafe or explore the beaches.

Are there any shopping secrets we should know about?
The shops along 4th Ave aren't exactly a secret, but they are worth a visit. 4th Avenue offers a mix of local and international brands and is home to the first Lululemon store.

Seawall

What is your favorite touristy landmark in the city?
Without a doubt, the gorgeous Seawall. It is fun to run, ride or walk along this 9 km path encircling Stanley Park, with trees on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other.

Vancouver Art Gallery

Do you have a favorite museum?
For families, Science World is highly rated. I enjoy the Vancouver Art Gallery, located right in the center of downtown.

What is your favorite hotel in town?
I love the Fairmont Pacific Rim Gold Floor, essentially a hotel within a hotel, in a prime location on Vancouver's waterfront. You can read more about why I love it on the Luxe Travel Family website.
